Mrs Nneka Madunatu is counting her losses after putting her shop assistant in charge of daily sales in her shop.

She runs a boutique where male and female fashion items are sold at Block 18D, Burdillion Court, Chevron, Lagos.

Her 29-year-old shop assistant, Sani Abdullahi, who is the principal suspect has now been charged to court for stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the accused committed the offence between Oct. 5, 2016 and Oct. 26, 2016.

He said the accused stole luxury shoes, ladies’ clothes, men’s clothes and costumes, jewellery, all valued at N320, 000, belonging to Mrs Nneka Madunatu.

“The accused sold these items and could not give account of the proceeds or the items,” Osuji said.

Sani Abdullahi pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mrs Helen Ibeji, urged the court to grant him bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs J. O. Adepoju, granted him bail in the sum of N40, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail condition.

The case was adjourned to March 28 for mention.

The offence contravened section 287 Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which provides a penalty of three years’ imprisonment.
