It’s getting scarier in the world’s most isolated country, North Korea.

One of North’s soldiers who got fed up with the live in the authoritarian communist nation got shot as he tried to cross to over to the democratic South.

Practically everyone one there is trapped and those who attempt escape are branded traitors who must be severely punished, sometimes by death.

South Korean military said on Monday that the soldier was shot and injured by his own side while defecting to South Korea at the truce village of Panmunjom.

"Our military has taken in a North Korean soldier after he crossed from a North Korea post towards our Freedom House," the statement said, referring to a building on the South side of the village which is bisected by the border.

The defector was taken to hospital after being shot by another North Korean soldier, the South's military said. Details of his condition were not immediately available.
