Taiwo Awoniyi, who was once dubbed the next Rashidi Yekini of Nigerian football, has been rewarded with a new five-year deal by English Premier League side, Liverpool.

UK-based sports website, TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool believe they have something special in Awoniyi and have agreed to the new deal in order to fend off interests from other top clubs.

Reports suggest Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona have been keeping an eye on the youngster with a view of signing him on.

However, while Awoniyi has been given another long-term contract, playing for the Reds is far from guaranteed at the moment because of work-permit criteria and will be loaned out again.

Patrick Vieira had hoped to take Awoniyi to Nice, but former Chelsea director, Michael Enemalo who is a Nigerian has promptly wrapped up a two-year loan deal for his club Monaco.

Awoniyi will now hope to make a name for himself at Monaco where former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba did so well and was nicknamed the Prince.
