Nigerian Striker Reacts After 100th Bundesliga Game
While the attention of many was on Marcus Rashford at the weekend for reaching 100 Premier League appearances, a Nigerian, Anthony Ujah also reached same milestone but far away in Germany in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Ujah who has been shut out of the Super Eagles in recent times played his 100th game in the German top flight over the weekend but his team was beaten black and blue on Sunday.
The 28-year old came off the bench to replace Mateta in the 58th minute at WWK ARENA but he could not save his team.
100 Bundesliga games... thank you to everyone who made this possible ???? GOD IS GOOD pic.twitter.com/l9QGwefXmr— Anthony Ujah (@ujah21) February 4, 2019
Ujah made his first Bundesliga appearance during his first spell with Opel Arena on August 13, 2011, against SC Freiburg after coming from Norwegian league.
He got his first goal for Mainz in a 3–1 victory over VfB Stuttgart on 4 November.
The former Liaoning Whowin striker finished the 2011-2012 season with 12 appearances to his name, scoring two goals.
Ujah has since gone to make 36 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz and played 32 games each for his previous clubs of Cologne and Werder Bremen in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 season respectively.
Former Super Eagles star Jonathan Akpoborie is the Nigerian with the most appearances in the Bundesliga with 144, and former Abuja FC and Warri Wolves striker needs 44 games to match that record.
