A young Nigerian striker playing in the Belgian League, Henry Onyekuru has been nominated for the Ebony Shoe.

This is an award given to the best African player in the Belgian First Division A.

The 19-year, who plays for Eupen, has been grabbing the headlines this season with his spectacular goal scoring run.

He is now looking to claim the Award previously won by the likes of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and City’s Vincent Kompany.

The 19-year-old Nigerian will have to see off stiff competition coming from the quartet of Landry Dimata (Congo, KV Oostende), Sofiane Hanni (Algeria, Anderlecht), Mbaye Leye (Senegal, Zulte Waregem) and Belgium international Youri Tielemans (Anderlecht) who are the other nominees for this year’s award.

After winning the first five editions , no Nigerian has won the prestigious award in over twenty years.

As stated by the organisers, the 26th winner of the Ebony Shoe will be announced on May 8 at a gala ceremony.
