Just like many young footballers who headed to Europe to make it big, Samuel Kalu has been giving his best.

He joined Belgian club, Gent in January and has remained a shining star.

He earned another accolade over the weekend when he scored in Gent’s 3-0 victory over Mechelen. His performance was outstanding enough to make the Team of the Week in the Belgian Jupiler League.

“This gives a lot of confidence,” the excited Nigerian told the club’s official website after the match.

“Nice to finish the regular season in this way. Actually, this was a must win game and fortunately we have brought it to a successful conclusion.  After the loss against Eupen we knew that just went up well enough to reach our goal. We have shown that we are capable, and with this win, we know that we can show such things in Play-Off 1.”

“We played a very strong first half with an important opening goal. If Mechelen finish their chances and scored the first, then it becomes a whole different game. Fortunately we were able to match the kill with the quick goal after the break."

The 19-year-old also praised the fans for their support.
