Nigerian Coach Kelechi Emeteole Is Dead
The The former Lobi Stars coach battled throat cancer till he passed on in India on Wednesday.
Emeteole had a successful initial surgery two months ago, and was due to undergo a final surgery to remove the pipe on his neck, before his demise.
He has managed Heartland FC, Enugu Rangers and El Kanemi, who were indebted to the coach until being forced by the League Management Company to pay.
The ‘Caterpillar’ as he was popularly known during his hare days in the national team took over as Rangers Coach from John Obuh.
He stayed on the job for 90 days before he was sent packing and Imama Amakpakabo was appointed.
Emeteole did not only captain Heartland . He also led the team as manager having five stints as coach.
The deceased was also engaged by Elkanemi Warriors after coach of the side Salisu Yusuf was appointed Assistant coach of the Super Eagles.
Emeteole, incidentally handled the club in 2011 when they earned a return to the Premier League after gaining promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL).
He will be mostly remembered for his encouraging words to home grown players.
