President Muhammadu Buhari has got his eyes on the ball even when collation was ongoing and it is most likely he did not even sleep.

It was a night affair and images of the President have surfaced after the announcement of the result showing how he was monitoring the election.

Or was it just a moment for the photograph?

Pictures of him shared by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, showed that epic moment that Baba Buhari realised that he had won the election.

He had polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who garnered 11,262,978 votes and while he looked at the figures on his screen, he was convinced that it could only be the act of God that would stop him.

He held his gaze on the screen, refusing to blink, as the figure that stretched to the left more than other figures held his attention, with promising hopes of a next level.

Buhari could not hold back smiles, and in his heart he knew he had struck gold and that the dream of a second term was as sure as day break.

After he saw those figures, he waited for the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare him winner before he took off and headed for the secretariat of his party, for his acceptance speech.

Before he left, right there, inside the Presidential Villa, was his waiting wife who was also in an ecstatic mood, with an assurance that was more than the kind Davido gave to Chioma.

Even if she could not enjoy the 'First Lady' nomenclature, she was sure of another four years walk by the side of the man that was now considered 'King of The North' who could still garner votes from every parts of Nigeria.

Whether it was a plan between him and his vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, that with the way the Nigerian map turned blue on his victory, it would be a great idea to come out in same royal colour.

Both of them appeared at their party's office in blue attire, heralding the beginning of an era that will usher Nigerians into a period they had said would bring everyone into the 'Next Level'.

The margin was wide and at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) it was dancing and mild carnival in the early hours of the morning when they arrived.

Top party leaders and governors where already on ground to receive the man who emerged victorious in an election that has been described by New York Times as a referendum on honesty

After the national anthem was sang with enthusiasm and renewed figure, the President gave an acceptance speech sitting, unlike in 2015, when he did that standing.

He thanked Nigerians for their support and promised consolidation on the security situation and the economy to ensure that the next level promised would be experienced in the next four years of his administration.

He needed to conserve his energy, as the electoral body had scheduled 2:00 p.m. for the collection of certificate of return, so his speech was short, one of the shortest in recent time and on a night that victory had come to him.

It was a short ceremony, but one that will be remembered for a long time.
