#NigeriaDecides2019: INEC Cancels Election In Two LGs In Kogi
The 2019 General Elections has had it fair share of drawbacks and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has been forced to take some drastic decisions.
Professor James Apam who is the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kogi State has announced the cancelation of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Ayingba and Egume area of Kogi State.
Despite the heavy presence of security operatives at most polling units, the election process did not see a peaceful ending.
The election on Saturday was marred by sporadic gunshots, stones, knives and other dangerous weapons freely used in ANYIGBA town by political thugs.
On Saturday, the voters were reported to have fled polling units.
Security men were said to have been allegedly deliberately withdrawn from the towns by the government hence making the political thugs have a free day.
Ayingba is popularly known for political thuggery and disruption of elections process.
There were also reported cases of ballot box snatching on Saturday in Ogori Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State, despite warnings by President Muhammadu Buhari that ballot box snatchers would pay with their lives.
Elections went on smoothly in barely all parts of Kogi central senatorial District, until at about 2.30 pm when hoodlums allegedly opened fire, shooting sporadically into the air and snatched the ballot boxes away to unknown location.
The areas that witnessed the incidents include Ayeromi, Ileteju Okesi and Oshobane wards in Ogori Magongo Local Government Area of the state.ALSO WATCH:
