Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown and for John Obi Mikel who is the Super Eagles captain, it is not any different.

Mikel and his national teammates have been subjected to a barrage of attacks since their hapless display in the World Cup opening game against Croatia in which the Eagles were thumped 2-0.

One of the reasons adduced for the Croatia beating was that Mikel who has functioned more as a defensive midfielder for his club was used in an offensive role and he did not play well in that position.

Even the well-respected Jose Mourinho learnt his voice to the discourse, labeling Mikel as a bad N0.10 but a superb No.6.

This and many more may have gotten to Mikel has thus offered to sacrifice for the Eagles so they can get the much needed win against the compact-playing Iceland team.

Mikel told the media in Russia:” If I have to sacrifice for this team to progress, I will.”

He added: “I am ready to play in any position the coach wants me to play. I am comfortable with either role: offensive or defensive. The most important thing is the team.”

It is true that Mikel started out as an offensive player but he has since metamorphosed into a more defensive minded player having spent many years under Mourinho at Chelsea.
