The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the League Management Company (LMC) are mourning.

This follows the death of Kano Pillars defender, Chinedu Udoji.

According to a statement by Pillars, Udoji lost his life in a ghastly motor accident along Independent Road in Bompai area in Kano late on Sunday.

The club said the player was heading to his residence in Badawa quarters after he visited his former club, Enyimba FC following the Week 9 encounter between both teams, which ended 1-1 on Sunday.

The statement added that Udoji was alone in his car with registration number KSF 499 BF when the accident happened.

NFF said on Monday - “the demise of @pillarsfc defender Chinedu Udoji comes as a rude shock to us this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and club. May his soul rest in peace. #RIPUdoji.”

LMC expressed sadness at the demise of the former Enyimba captain.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of one of NPFL's finest defenders. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chinedu Udoji's family, Kano Pillars & #NPFL clubs.”

Udoji, 28, is survived by a wife and two children.
