The proliferation of arms in Nasarawa state has been a source of worry to resident in Lafia and other local council areas.

The activities of the criminals were threatening to spread to the Federal Capital Territory which is just a stone throw away.

The Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, said on Wednesday that efforts are being made to end the trend.

In the meantime, three residents of the state have willingly handed over their arms in compliance with the deadline for amnesty given to members of the public to submit unregistered weapons.

Although, the level of compliance was rather disappointing, Sadiq-Bello believes the police are on the right track.

“However, with this response, we would go back to the drawing board and evaluate the situation in order to decide on the next line of action,” he said.

Sadiq-Bello said that the command already had intelligence reports about locations where firearms were being manufactured in the state and would soon bring the culprits to justice.
