N4.4 Billion Worth Of Hospital Equipment Wasting Away In Gombe
Hospital equipment worth about N4.4 billion are presently 'lying fallow' in the Gombe State Medical Store.
The equipment was delivered four years ago and have been abandoned to dust and rot.
Investigation by Bounce News revealed that hospital beds, oxygen cylinders and drip stands were among the equipment left to waste away in the Medical store.
Confirming the existence of these equipment, some staff who did not want their names mentioned said that some of the equipment have been stored in the premises for a long time.
The officer in charge of the Medical Store, Pharmacist Habu Santana was not available when Bounce News visited.
A source within Gombe state ministry of health told Bounce News that there is a high-level conspiracy around the delivery of the equipment.
He alleged that there was no proper contract agreement concerning the delivery of the equipment, making it difficult for hospitals to make requests for certain equipment they lack.
The source added that the equipment, worth about N4.4 billion, were said to have been delivered to the store based on verbal agreement.
Efforts to get the state commissioner of Health, Dr. Kennedy Ishaya to react was not successful as he was said to have traveled out of the State.
