By the morning of Tuesday, the only thing that was left in a one room apartment belonging to Professor Adegboyega Obadofin was a carcass that bears no recognition.

The lecturer and acting Dean of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Ondo state University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa was allegedly burnt to ashes in a midnight inferno that could not be explained by anyone.

One of his neighbors who pleaded anonymity said the incident was beyond their understanding.

"This is quite mysterious because there was no power supply. No generator light. Nobody noticed any form of smoke.

"How could it have happened to only him without anybody in the building knowing about it or slightly affected by the fire? These are questions no one can answer."

A student of the institution confided in our correspondent that the lecturer must have possibly crossed the lines of some big boys on campus.

"There had been controversies between him and some group of students with questionable characters for a while over his course. Everybody is aware in his department that he was the lecturer with the highest number of re-runners in his class. So I suspect his tragedy must have stemmed from that angle."

But could that be the reason?

The vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Sunday Ogunduyile described the incident as shocking.

"It is a shocking news because we never expect such at this trying time in the university."

The don, who saw the deceased as a cerebral professional, said his family members have been contacted in Lagos.

The incident was later confirmed by the state police public relations officer, Femi Joseph who earlier denied any knowledge of the incident.

The deceased has been deposited at the Okitipupa general hospital.
