As the scene of inferno at the Access bank located in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akugba Akoko created a gloomy atmosphere, little did they know that the incident was a saving grace for some top officials in the bank.

The mysterious fire, which was said to have destroyed some offices, undisclosed amount of money and the section of ATM, had created a wave of confusion among staff of the bank on Monday.

An in-house source confided in Bounce News correspondent that some top officials within the branch has been under investigation a week before the incident to account for a sum of 75million naira which could not be reconciled in the books.

"The branch service manager had already led some of our senior staffs to the head office in Lagos to answer some questions about the irreconcilable account for the month of July.

"Until the fire incident, there was already tension among staff. We knew if the money could not be accounted for, definitely some people will go to jail, but we don't know who. As a matter of fact, if it was possible, many of us would have resigned.

"The panel from Lagos were supposed to arrive in our branch this week for further and on-the-spot investigation but to our surprise, the branch went off in flame before we could resume on Monday." The source said.

It was however gathered that investigation into the fraud has presently been put on hold in order to assess the height of damages done by the fire and commence the renovation of the affected part.
