Coach of Bafana Bafana Stuart Baxter is excited, and he has more than one reason to be.

Baxter won his first game in charge of South Africa, away at Nigeria. Saturday’s victory was a first in a competitive game for the Bafana Bafana.

As if that was not enough, Baxter’s game plans worked out perfectly for him. He had warned the Super Eagles that he would try to avoid conceding an early goal in order to frustrate the 2013 Africa champions, and that was what happened.

According to the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, his “boys exhausted all their energy in the first half and were tired in the second half,” that was the game plan of Baxter.

He has however given credit to the Super Eagles, saying they are a difficult side.

“We opened up the game in the first half but unfortunately we did not score. Beating Nigeria is very interesting.

"Nigeria are a very good side but my boys prevented them from scoring. We are trying to develop our boys and expose them.”
