The conception of a child is normally celebrated and the birth of the child eagerly anticipated.

But that was not the case for 27 year old Justina Dusu whose boyfriend allegedly killed her sister (Simi) and attempted to abort her pregnancy. She takes some solace in the safe birth of her baby.

“I have put to bed and I am very happy; I love my child so much in spite of what happened . He is innocent and I cannot extend my anger to him ,” she said.

The accused, who has been identified as Stephen Luka is currently facing charges of murder, attempted murder, assault and sexual abuse at a High Court in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

Stephen was alleged to have attacked the sisters on July 27, 2016 at his home in Sabon Gari, Tudun Wada, after they went to ask him to accept Justina’s pregnancy.

He accepted responsibility for the pregnancy but suggested an abortion, an idea Justina and her sister rejected.

Stephen is said to have lost his cool and used a machete to attack both sisters, resulting in Simi’s death, while Justina lost her left eye in addition to severe injuries on her body. He was arrested by police officials.

Justina, who is trying to move on with life, is demanding justice.

“I have forgiven Luka over what he did to me and my sister, but I need justice. Justice must be served and he must be punished for his actions.

“He humiliated me and my family and I can’t take it. He must be punished,” she said.

The case has been adjourned till March 29.
