MUST READ: Bishop Oyedepo's Tips On How To Sustain A Godly Home
It is another Sunday and it is great to talk about the things of God. The family is the only institution that God established on this earth and every other things should revolve around it.
But many have dumped the unity and growth that the family propels, taken up their own ways and different crimes have come as rewards for this perversion.
In Nigeria for instance, if it is not insurgency [terrorism] it is kidnapping or bandits attacks.
In all the regions of Nigeria, there are shadows of insecurity and even worse is the stealing of women undies that is now in vogue.
The ear hears some things and it tingles. These crimes are increasing to a more extreme situation and even criminals of old respect the younger generation because of what their minds can conceive.
In all of these, one unit which makes up the whole - FAMILY - has been blamed.
People have thrown values away and have made crime a norm, but the Bishop of Living Faith Church, Dr. David Oyedepo, believes that families could rescue their wards and then impact on the world as a whole.
He had devoted the month of January to teachings on how families could be sustained and they are great values that anyone looking to raise a godly home should consider.
According to him, "any family who gains victory or success in family-related issues is bound to succeed in other areas of life. There is no limit to the kind of blessing and pleasure God can bring to your life when your home is in order".
Everyone involved in one crime or the other in Nigeria is from a family and Bishop Oyedepo is aware of this.
He says: "Whether your home is sustained or not, is a function of you and not God".
What is a Godly Home?
Bishop Oyedepo defined a godly home as, a home run according to demands of scriptures, which represent God’s mind, ways and styles.
"So, a godly home is a home that is run the same way Jesus Christ would run His own home.
"A home that is Christ-centred.
"It is not enough to build a godly home, but most importantly it must be sustained by God’s principle," he said.
Bishop Oyedepo emphasised that the home has various responsibilities which both the man and the woman must co-operate to fulfil for the home to be sustained.
"Negligence of either the man or the woman can affect the sustenance of the home. Therefore, co-operation is a necessity.
He listed some responsibilities that the parties that formed a family - Male and Female - must perform to have a godly home and be able to sustain their marriage.
1. Leading The Home
He highlighted that just like an organisation must have a leader, the family is in need of such good leadership for the sustenance of the home.
Bishop Oyedepo said: "The welfare of the home has also been committed to the hands of the man to make provision for his household.
"The Bible explained this fact in 1 Timothy 5:8: If any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel".
2. Training Children
In Kano State, a profile of some prostitutes apprehended some months ago showed that people from broken homes engage more in illicit activities.
And Bishop Oyedepo emphasised that the father of the children also has the responsibility of training the children.
"This should be done in conjunction with the wife.
"It is common for a man to push this responsibility solely on his wife because she is the mother of his children.
"However, this should be a joint responsibility."
He said that the the woman, as a mother, has a responsibility towards her children in raising them up in the way of the Lord. The Bible says: Train up your child in the way that he should go… (Proverbs 22:6).
3. The Role Of Submission
Quoting from the Bible, Bishop Oyedepo stressed that the woman had the primary responsibility of submitting to the leadership of the man as ordained by God from creation.
"This is not a choice neither is it optional but an instruction.
"The Bible says: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22),"he stated.
When the man and woman both play their role well, it becomes easy to sustain the home and no storm of life will be able to destabilise their home because of the force of agreement.
He, however, warned that "if one party does not co-operate in fulfilling his/her own responsibilities the other party should not use that as an excuse for negligence, but rather fulfil his/her own part and pray for grace for the other party".
These are the principles that had sustained his home for decades.
