Residents of Aiyedun quarters in Akure, Ondo state were alerted by a cry of a day-old baby girl on Thursday.

The new born was not actually creating an awareness about his arrival. It was a sorrowful cry for help which luckily came at the right time.

She was discovered at a dilapidated building where she was abandoned by a yet- to- be identified mother.

According to Mrs. Victoria Olusegun, residents of the area woke to hear the cry of the baby in the desolate building.

"It was really touching at the sight of the innocent kid. It was obvious she was dumped there early in the morning when the mother was sure nobody was around to notice her presence", she said.

A sympathizer, Florence Adetutu who could not hide her emotion disclosed that her sister stayed for 36 years after marriage without a child before she eventually died.

"While some people are keeping vigil and going from one mountain to another just to have a child, some who are freely given without sweat seem not to value the gift.

"Till date, my sister's case is still affecting my aged mother mentally." She wept.

A security guard who claimed to have noticed a woman around the building about 4:30am said he never knew she was dropping a child but thought she was merely passing by.

The state police command PRO, Femi Joseph who confirmed the incident said the baby had been recovered and taken to the juvenile home where adequate care will be given to her.

Joseph added that investigations are ongoing to nab the perpetrator of the dastardly act.
