It was a moment of excitement for the Federal Executive Council, as members received African champions and winners of the 2017 FIBA Women's Afrobasket, D'Tigress.

The team joined the Council at its Chambers on a day members hold weekly meeting.

It was presided by President Muhammadu Buhari and the excited President welcomed the team that has made him and over 170 million Nigerians proud.

The team defeated Senegal 65-48 in the final game of the tournament to emerge champions of the 2017 FIBA Women's Afrobasket.

Trailing by 6 points from the first quarter, the Nigerians fought back to win the second quarter 21-10 points.

D’Tigress extended their lead by winning the third quarter 15-7 points and the fourth quarter 17-13 points.

Point guard, Osaretin Ekhator, emerged top performer for Nigeria with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.

Their victory secured a place for Nigeria in the FIBA Women’s World Cup that will hold in Spain next year.
