Money Falls On Nigeria League Champions, Plateau United
The heroic feat performed by Plateau United players and officials last season in the Nigeria Professional Football League may have earned them their best Yuletide celebration in recent times.
The Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong rewarded the NPFL champions with a cash gift of 80 million Naira at a special reception staged in their honour in Jos on Thursday night.
It is understood that the state government contributed 50 million Naira, while the local governments pulled together the sum of 30 million Naira.
A breakdown down of the Naira rain showed that 40 players in the championship-winning squad received 1.5 million Naira each, while coach Kennedy Boboye will get 2.7 million Naira, while other coaches and backroom staff will also share in the windfall.
The team will also be given plots of land, according to the elated Governor.
The reception at the Government House was a colourful and befitting recognition of Plateau United’s feat this past season when they emerged champions for the first time.
The Solid Miners will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next year.
