Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed the traditional ruler of Elibrada community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eze Augustine Amadionu.

The killing took place on Tuesday when the gunmen invaded the community.

Two other members of the community were beheaded by the cultists.

A source in the community told Bounce News that the cultists left immediately after killing their targets.

He added that the monarch was shot dead in his palace, while the two others were beheaded after they received gunshot wounds from their assailants.

The source dismissed report that the murdered victims were cultists, adding that the killings have forced inhabitants to leave the community for fear of another attack.

"At the moment, there is fear everywhere in the community.

"People are living in fear.

"Some are even out of the community, although the police have come, people are still living in fear,” the source said.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing and described the situation as unfortunate.

Omoni added that "the reoccurring incident of killings in Emohua communities are as a result of cult groups regrouping to unleash mayhem".

The police said the bodies of the dead have been deposited in a mortuary in one of the hospitals in the area.
