Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has confirmed that he has successfully undergone surgery after suffering an injury while playing for his Chinese club, Tianjin Teda.

The Nigeria international suffered the injury over two weeks ago, and has been forced out of action since, before going under the knife.

He will now go into rehab as he starts his recuperation and journey back to fitness.

The 30-year old posted a picture of himself on a hospital bed after the surgery with the caption: “Surgery went well, rehab next... can't wait to be back ?????????? shame I can't be on the pitch fighting with my team #TianjinTEDA #TEDAFightingFightingFighting ????????”

Following his injury and surgery, he will now miss out of the Super Eagles’ planned training camp in the French island of Corsica next month, where they will play a friendly against a Corsica XI, and a possible clash with Burkina Faso.

For now it is not clear if Mikel will be up and running fast enough before the Super Eagles take on South Africa in June in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
