Though Alex Iwobi’s solitary goal ensured that Super Eagles are the first African country to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Russia, it seems other ‘unseen forces’ contributed to making the dream become reality.

One of such would be John Obi Mikel’s Russian partner Olga Diyachenko who the Super Eagles captain revealed flew to Russia to give the Nigeria national team all the luck they needed.

“I am very happy…she (Olga) will be very happy because we always speak about it an actually today (Saturday) she flew to Russia for good luck she says if she is there we will win; she is there with the kids am sure she will be very proud.” Mikel told journalists in Uyo after Saturday’s win over Zambia.

With the job now completed and the World Cup ticket now in the kitty, Mikel said his family will be live in Russia to see him play in what will be his second appearance at the Mundial, having only debuted in Brazil 2014.

He said: “They will be in Russia for the World Cup, it would be amassing and I won’t get scolded up at home now that we have qualified.”

The Eagles having amassed an unassailable 13 points from their five games getting the sole ticket in Group B.
