Mikel Nets First Goal in Chinese Super League
Super Eagles Captain, John Obi Mikel did not have to wait for six years like he did while at Chelsea to register his first goal in the Chinese Super League where he now plays for Tianjin TEDA
Mikel shook off injury pain and was certified fit as he led his team to a 2-0 victory against Chongqing Lifan; scoring the first goal in that encounter.
Mikel opened the scoring on 48 minutes and an own goal from Chongqing Lifan’s Goran Milovic in the 82nd minute sealed a 2-0 win for Tianjin Teda.
The goal was Mikel’s first after three games in the Chinese Super League since joining Tianjin from Chelsea in January.
Also in action for Tianjin Teda was Mikel’s Nigerian teammate Brown Ideye who was replaced in the 65th minute by Dong Wang, as he fired blanks.
Meanwhile, another Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo was on the losing side in the Chinese Super League on Sunday as his club, Changchun Yatai were beaten 2-0 at home by Shandong Luneng.
Ighalo, who also doubles as Changchun’s captain, led the line for his side, but fired blanks as they suffered yet another defeat which has now seen them slip to the bottom of the league table.
