After playing for a decade in the English Premier League for Chelsea and winning all that was available, Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, does not seem to be interested in another spell in England.

The Nigeria international who has been consistently linked with a move to Everton has shot down those reports, even as he declared that he was happy staying in China with Tianjin TEDA.

"I don’t know where such a rumour came from, but this story is untrue,” he told Tianjin TV when asked about the reported Everton interest in his services.

"I want to stay in the Chinese Super League and play for Teda. I'm sure there will be lots of speculation about me, as the transfer window nears but this is a false rumour.”

Mikel will be leading Nigeria at the World Cup finals in Russia in June in what will be his only second appearance at the Mundial after a debut in Brazil in 2014.

But he is confident that playing club football in China will not have a detrimental effect on his international performances, as it was the case during the qualifiers which he was far above average.

“Playing in the CSL will help me maintain my status for the World Cup,” he added.
