Members Abandon Church Following Arrest Of G.O For Fraud
The Christ Apostolic Church, Freedom City International, Akure which was once a beehive of spiritual activities and miracle has become a fallow and abandoned structure.
The abandoned House of God is located at no 7, Gbogi Street, Iju Akure.
Two months into the arrest of its General Overseer, Prophet James Abiodun Adeniyi and paraded by the Nigeria Society of Civil Defense corpse, worshippers are seeking green pastures.
Prophet Adeniyi, aged 45, was reportedly arrested for issuing fake NSCDC appointment letters to both members and non-members of the church who were seeking for job in Ondo state.
A former worshiper, Bunmi Akingbade said the G.O did not lay a good example for his members.
"It is said that when the head is rotten, the entire body will surely decay. A man of God is like a representative of God in the church and he must be blameless before the people.
"What the prophet did was the height of moral irresponsibility that cannot be overlooked by any of his members.
"Although our hearts matter to God but when a spiritual leader misses it, his followers will surely crumble." She said.
Another source within the church disclosed that many of his members have moved with the Assistant pastor of the abandoned church who seized the privilege of prophet Adeniyi's misdeed to float his own church.
A CAC pastor in Akure, who confirmed the incident, believes that it is not all those who are called prophets that are truly called by God.
"There are many of them out there. It is because he is caught that we are talking of this. If he hasn't been caught, it would have still been business as usual.
"And for those who are still in that line of perdition, we will continue to pray that God should touch their hearts and make them see the true light in Christ Jesus."
According to the state NSCDC Commandant, Pedro Awili, about 50 fake appointment letters were recovered from the clergyman who was arrested after series of complain by his church members.
The suspect was said to have been charged to court.
