Man Stabs Friend Over Beer Bottles
Olaitan Ibrahim and his friend, Funsho Taiwo, had come to a bar with a purpose - emptying some bottles of beer. But their minds drowned by intake of alcohol, played a fast one on them.
May be both of them should not have been together on that day.
Alcohol could do a lot to a man and the enmity few bottles brought between these former friends is one that only time may heal.
Their disagreement started when it was time to bear the cost of their supposed enjoyment.
None was willing to deep his hand in his pocket to produce the cash needed to offset the bill.
Argument ensued and Ibrahim, 25, stabbed his friend, Taiwo, with a broken bottle in the head.
Punches were thrown freely and after further disagreement, the bar owner handed them over to the police and now they are in court.
A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, Nigeria's commercial city, heard their case on Monday.
Ibrahim, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of assault occasioning harm.
The Prosecutor who is a police offer, Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 9 at Agunmojayi Community, Ilogbo Eremi, Badagry.
“The accused, who are friends, were in a bar drinking when an argument started over who should pay for the beer.
“In the heat of the argument, the accused broke a bottle and stabbed the complainant on the head,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. It also prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of 100,000 Naira and a surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until October 10.
