When Mrs Blessing Amaoke completed the production of her music album, she must have imagined the fortune that would fall on her with the expected sales.

But like the title of the album - Shattered Destiny, one Mr Gobbless Ali was determined to shatter her destiny while building his own.

He deceived the artiste and stole the master tape of the music album valued at N8 million.

He got caught but it is not clear if the damage can be reversed since he reportedly confessed to having sold it.

The accused appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where the prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, narrated what happened.

“The complainant gave the accused her master tape to do the shooting and the studio work of her musical album.

“The accused disappeared with the tape and after he was arrested, he claimed to have sold the album.”

Ayorinde said the accused also obtained N130,000 from the complainant on the pretext of using it to hire an event centre and to entertain invited guests at the launch of the album.

Ali, 34, a resident of Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.J. Awope, granted Godbless bail in the sum of 500,000 naira and directed him to produce two sureties in like sum as part of the bail condition.

If found guilty, Godbless could earn a 15 year jail term for obtaining money under false pretenses as stipulated by Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised), while Section 287 stipulates three years for stealing.

The case was adjourned until August 23 for mention.
