A bloody fight started as a result of an argument which ensued between Shade Taiwo and her neighbour, Olorunwa Ogundare on July 14, at their residence in Ipodo Street, Ikeja.

According to policeman, Simeon Ihonwa, Shade said that Ogundare claimed she was very rude to him, so he decided to teach her a lesson by beating her up.

He did this by beating her to a pulp and also using a broken bottle to stab her in the eye.

It was so bad that all efforts made by other tenants in the compound to settle the dispute proved abortive.

The prosecutor alleged that the complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested.

He appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Mr Olorunwa Ogundare (27) is standing trial on a charge of assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The offences contravened Sections 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Section 173 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault occasioning harm.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned until September 14, for mention.
