“The girl was on her way back from school when the accused called her.

“The accused could not hold himself.  He called the girl into his room on the pretext of sending her to her brother.

“The accused shut the door at her and raped her.

“The girl cried to her mother and the case was brought to the police station.”

“Ogu was arrested and remanded in police custody but escaped.

“He was later arrested and charged to court.”

This was the account of Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Ogu described the accused as a friend to the brother of the rape victim who is a teenager.

The accused is Mathias Attah, 20, an unemployed man and he is facing a two-count charge of rape and unlawful escape from custody.

The offences were committed on May 31 and June 7 at the residence of the accused.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akanni adjourned the case until July 17 for mention.
