Ekene Ezeogo , 28,  killed his mother, Mary, in cold blood at the family house at 24, Agbaja Road in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

Ekene was said to have killed his mother when she was trying to settle a fight between him and his younger sister.

After the dastardly act, Ekene went to the Central Police Station, Abakaliki and reported the matter.

He, however, fled the station when the police wanted to arrest him.

He ran to an uncompleted building at Onuebo area of Abakaliki  and drank three bottles of rat poison.

After he took the rat poison, he began crying for help, apparently not so willing to take his life.

Passers-by, who heard him crying for help, came to his rescue.

He was taken to the emergency unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, but it was too late. Emeka eventually died.

Sunday Chinedu, a tenant in the Ezeogo’s family house, corroborated the story, saying that occupants of the house helped rush Ekene to the hospital.
