He says his intentions were honest and modest but his approach was the problem.

A 45-year-old man, Sikiru Adebayo, is facing a one count charge of murder for the death of his own son.

He was on Thursday arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Trouble started in the Adebayo family on July 31, at Abidogun Zone 7 area of Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

There had been an allegation that the late son, Uthman Adebayo stole a belt belonging to their neighbour and his father decided to deal him some punishment.

Sadly, the corporal punishment turned to capital punishment. He flogged the boy and he died.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Duro Adekunle, told the court that the defendant committed an offence that contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2003.

Defence counsel, Mudashiru Balogun, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

Balogun said that the case file released from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), indicated a manslaughter charge against his client.

However, the plea of the defendant was not taken.

The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade, ordered remand of the defendant in custody and amendment of the charge to reflect manslaughter as indicated by the DPP.

The case was adjourned until August 11.
