She gave birth to him, nurtured him but he tortured her and took her life.

Godwin Banchir, 24, killed his mother, Saratu Banchir for refusing to answer his greetings.

The accused was in the habit of quarreling with his mother anytime he was hungry.

He committed the offence on January 27, 2016 at his home in Fuskar Mata Village, Bassa Local Government Area, in Plateau.

The accused had in his confessional statement to the police said he killed his mother because he was angry that she did not respond to his greetings.

The statement quoted the accused as saying that when he woke up at 6 a.m on the said date, he saw his mother sitting in the compound, while on his way to his farm, and greeted her, but that she did not answer.
He said her mother's silence angered him, which made him use a stick and the handle of his axe to beat her until she became unconscious.

The incident attracted neighbours and family members, who rushed the victim to a near by hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

Banchir was later apprehended and handed over to the police for prosecution.

He could spend the rest of his life behind bars or be executed for his crime.
