It is not news that many Nigerians believe there is a gang-up against the Presidency in the Senate.

But Mr Olanrewaju Suraj, a political analyst speaking on a TV show on Friday believes the President needs to "reconfigure" his team in order to stop being at their mercy.

He was reacting to the Senate’s rejection of Mr Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“It is clear that the principal characters in the National Assembly, especially the Senate will never want someone of Magu’s status to be an anticorruption boss.

“A sizeable number of them are under investigation by EFCC as well,” he said, adding that they are “more or less lawless policy makers themselves”

Although Mr Magu has also been condemned by many Nigerians for performing below expectation during his screening at the Senate, Mr Suraj believes he performed “exceeding well”.

Most shocking to Nigerians was Magu’s inability to give account of how much has been recovered by the EFCC.

“He won’t have the figures because the monies are not paid to EFCC, they are paid to a consolidated account” Suraj said in his defence.

He insisted what we saw at the senate was “not a screening but a premeditated outcome”.
