Magistrate Rescues Accused From 'Abduction'
Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, has been standing trial for offences related to possession of arms and ammunition.
But there was drama during his arraignment at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on Thursday when some policemen attempted to arrest him.
Presiding magistrate, Mrs Awogboro, had to intervene to stop the ‘abduction’.
The policemen told the Margistrate that the arrest of Alhaji was ordered by an unnamed Deputy Commissioner of Police at the Force Criminal Investigation Bureau in Abuja.
The magistrate condemned the action of the police and the warrant for his arrest.
Alhaji Owoeye was accused of jumping bail over same case he was being tried for.
However, the unusual thing about the case is that his trial is being duplicated in two other courts simultaneously.
With the directive from the Police high command that all the cases should be consolidated for effective prosecution, his lawyer wondered why Owoeye’s case is different.
It was gathered that yesterday’s incident was the second attempt to arrest Owoeye in one month.
