Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Plateau United, and Aiteo Cup winners Akwa United will storm Lead City University in Ibadan for a pre-season tournament.

Though clubs in the Nigerian top flight are still expecting the League Management Company to announce the kickoff date for the new season of the NPFL, training has now begun in earnest.

Plateau and Akwa United will be joined by Sunshine Stars, Nassarawa United, Wikki Tourist FC, Abia Warriors and newly promoted Heartland FC.

General Coordinator of the Lead City pre-season Tournament, Prince Adeyemi Adeyinka said the purpose of the championship is to help prepare teams in the apex football league in the country for upcoming leagues.

FIFA/CAF Instructor, Adegboye Onigbinde tops the list of facilitators during the pre-season tournament and will lead coaches in a seminar among other side attractions.

It is expected that the tournament will blossom along the year, with the first edition expected to kick off on the 20th and end on the 30th of November 2017 at the Lead City University Football Pitch, Ibadan Oyo State.
