Have you every admired lawmakers or wished you could understand what they do?

Your dream may soon come true as parliamentary studies may be added to the curriculum of universities in Nigeria.

Members of the House of Representatives are looking to amend the National Universities Commission Act 2004 to make this possible.

The bill has passed second reading at the lower legislative chamber.

The sponsor, Ossy Prestige, said the bill would strengthen the growth of democracy in Nigeria.

“The study would include the process of introducing bills, how they are passed and other sundry issues in the legislature,” he said.

Prestige informed the House that other advanced countries have introduced parliamentary studies in tertiary institutions to help people learn lawmaking procedures.

The Speaker of the house, Mr Yakubu Dogara, in his remarks, referred the bill to the Committee on Tertiary Education for further analysis.
