Lagos is the Centre of Excellence and it is sure excelling in everything.

Women involvement in politics is increasing in Lagos, and the state has consistently produced a female deputy governor in its governorship election in the last 10 years.

Now the local council election was held on Saturday, July 22, and women clinched 9 out of 57 positions in the state, the highest that has been recorded.

No Nigerian state has any figure near that number.

They received their certificates alongside 48 others on Monday at the office of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) in Yaba.

Justice Attitude Phillips, the Chairman of LASIEC, handed over certificates to the chairmen while other officials of the electoral body handed over the certificates to the councillors.

The election was swept by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was characterised by low turnout of voters after rainstorm forced some electorates to remain at home.

The elected persons would be sworn-in within the week.
