Obiageli Emenike brought eight-year-old Miracle Edogwu from her village to work with her as a domestic help.

But little Miracle is no more and the Lagos-based businesswoman has been accused of being behind the death of her maid.

She was on Thursday hauled up before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Julius Babatope told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 20 at about 6.00p.m. at No. 1, Aregbe St., Ago Okota in Isolo area of Lagos.

According to him, the woman allegedly beat Miracle with a leather belt until she gave up the ghost.

The accused, 31, is facing a charge of beating her maid to death to which she pleaded not guilty.

The offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised)

She was, however, released on bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Olajuwon, directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The case has been adjourned until June 26.
