A 27-year-old trader, Matthew Alebiosu, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly breaking into an apartment to steal mobile phones.

The accused and one other person still at large allegedly conspired to burgle an apartment belonging to Adeyinka Dada, at Alaja Road, Ayobo.

Some items stolen include one phone and an I-Pad both valued at N27,600.

Ayorinde said that the accused jumped into the compound of the complainant on June 19 and destroyed the window burglar-proof to gain access into the flat.

“He was, however, arrested when he wanted to sell one of the phones at computer village; having sold one already,” the prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court.

He added that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

Section 307 prescribes seven years jail term for burglary.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mrs J. O. Awope, adjourned the case till July 10.
