Lagos Speaker Loses N9.2m To Facebook Fraudsters
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has lost millions of Naira to Facebook fraudsters.
The fraudsters had accessed his Guaranty Trust Bank account, where they stole his 9,188,100 Naira.
The three fraudsters, Frank Nwokobia, 27, Ezeoke Kanayochukwu, 25, and Godwin Essien, 28, had also attempted to sell off the property of the Speaker before they were caught.
The men arrested in Delta state, were all arraigned before Justice (Professor) Chuka Obiozor of Federal High Court in Lagos, on a 5-count charge of conspiracy, impersonation and theft.
The Police prosecutor, Williams Ologun, informed the court that the three accused were arrested in Delta State, after Obasa, petitioned the police that his Facebook account had been hacked and that the sum of 9.188,100 million Naira had been withdrawn from his account by unidentified individuals.
He also stated that upon the arrest of the accused, they voluntarily made statement admitting being into cyber crime business.
The 3 accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Upon their pleas of not-guilty, their lawyer, Ali Abba, urged the court to admit them to bail in liberal terms, as they have credible sureties and that they would always come to court for their trial.
Justice Chuka Obiozor, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of 5 million Naira with one surety each.
They were, however, remanded in Ikoyi Prison until they perfect their bail conditions.
