Lagos Land Use Charge: Speaker Admits Increase Is Outrageous
The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa on Tuesday accepted that the review amount payable for land use charge as carried out by lawmakers is outrageous.
Speaking at the public hearing to amend the Lagos State Land Use Charge (Amendment) Law 2018, the speaker representing Agege in the House of Assembly, asserted that the percentage of increase of the charge by the state is ‘outrageous’.
He said, “What we have presented might be outrageous, but I want you to consider the state and our generation.”
He, however, called on Lagosians to accept the amended charge.
The Land Use Charge is an annual charge rate on a percentage of the market value of a property.
There have been controversies over the amendment of the law which according to some stakeholders, increased charges by as much as 400 percent.
The House, however gave Lagosians two weeks to submit their memorandum before a decision will be taken on the matter.
The Majority leader, Sanai Agunbiade in his closing remarks said this.
He added that all the suggestions, memoranda and opinions will be looked into.
