Lagos Building Collapse: Don’t Allow This Incident To Repeat Again, Buhari Tells Ambode
Following the building collapse that killed and injured many school pupils at Itafaaji in Lagos state, President Muhammadu Buhari, has charged the state’s governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to do everything within his power to avoid a repetition of such catastrophic accident in the state.
Buhari made his feeling known on Wednesday in a statement by his media aide, Femi Adesina, in Abuja.
Buhari, sympathized with the parents and relations of the deceased and wished them God’s comfort
He also wished those injured speedy and complete recovery.
"Mr President equally commiserated with the government and good people of Lagos State, and pledges assistance of the Federal Government as may be required by the state.
“It touches one to lose precious lives in any kind of mishap, particularly those so young and tender. May God grant everyone affected by this sad incident fortitude and succour,” the President said. He charges the Lagos State government to do all that is needful, so that such tragic developments do not recur in future.
The three-storey residential building with the primary school on its pent house, caved in about 10 a.m. when some of the pupils were observing their Physical Exercises (PE) in batches, while others were in the class waiting for their turn.
As at press time, 12 persons have been confirmed dead, while 64 were rescued, with scores still trapped underneath the rubble.
