Sunday's sad incident has left residents of Ilashe area of Lagos State shaken.
Shops and stalls around the community have remained closed and the regular Lagos Hustle peaked slowly on Monday.
Four passengers were also injured while reports several other people are still missing.
The incident has been attributed to overloading of passengers on a Banana Boat and operations of an illegal jetty.
Reports suggest the boat was conveying some Christians from one side of Ilase village to the other when the turbulent waves forced it to capsize.
