The APC's governorship candidate in Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has queried his counterpart in the PDP, Jimi Agbaje’s opinion that Lagos is in bondage.

Agbaje, who’s 2019 governorship election campaign theme is tagged ‘#FreeLagos’, said the state is being run by a cabal.

"Lagosians want a government that would prioritize their needs over the dictates of one man in every single circumstance - housing, healthcare, jobs, opportunities for the youth etc.

"I know this because I hear it every where I go. People are tired of the secrecy. They are tired of the tyranny. And to belittle this is to underestimate the resolve of Lagosians to bring about a new order in Lagos in this election. To them, as it stands today, Lagos is not free", said Agbaje on December 12.

"How do we talk economic development if our plans have to be sanctioned by some godfather?

"How do build infrastructure at the speed that Lagos deserves when we have to factor in the interest of a few Ogas-at-the-top over the greater good of our people? Freedom is at the very heart of this election. Let no one tell you otherwise.” He added.

However, during a meeting of APC members in Ikeja, Lagos on Monday, Sanwo-Olu said;

“Some people that call themselves umbrella party are saying Lagos is under bondage, which freedom again are they talking about in Lagos, are we in the 18th or 19th century?

“How can somebody be talking about freedom in Lagos?

“Lagos that is the 5th largest economy in Africa. Lagos that has the largest growth in Nigeria and Africa. Lagos that is the bedrock of our country", he added.

The 2019 governorship election in Lagos state is expected to be keenly contested.
