Nigerian guys can be very sleek when it comes to walking out of a relationship.

You’d think you’re in a steady relationship and boom, one day you’ll see your man pop up on some random girl’s Snapstory, kissing her and declaring undying love.

The lack of warning is the most jarring part of being dumped by a Naija guy. Could this be due to the fear of confrontation or sheer insensitivity? Whichever the case, you’ll save yourself a lot of headache if you are clever enough to notice the signs early on, and be the one doing the dumping instead.

Here are 3 telltale signs to look out for.

1. He’ll rather hang out with anyone but you

For some reason, he no longer considers you interesting and he’d rather spend more time with his friends than with you. Even when you're together, he’s either occupied with his phone, a TV show or chatting with the neighbour whom you both consider to be annoying. He seems to be always getting involved with anything that will get him away from you, so you two end up talking less and seeing less of each other. That’s his way of slowly detaching himself from you till he’ll finally make it official and leave for good.

2. You two are always quarreling

All of a sudden, you can’t seem to do anything right anymore. Everything you do or say is criticized, and you find yourself walking on eggshells around him with nearly every conversation degenerating into explosive quarrels. In fact, you feel safer keeping your mouth shut when he’s around because you know any single word you utter will be twisted and bent out of shape till it becomes the source of another quarrel.

3. No more intimacy

Kissing, hugging and lovemaking are now distant memories. The closest thing to intimacy in your relationship is the stiff hug you share after a tiresome visit. He is either always tired or having muscle cramps somewhere in his body. When it’s time for intimacy, he’ll come up with a million reasons why he is not in the mood. Simply put, you two have become strangers to each other.
