Labour Kicks Against New Policy On Customs Duty
The Nigeria Labour Congress has joined the train of those opposing the new policy of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The NCS has directed all motor dealers and private vehicle owners whose customs duty are unpaid to do so before April 12, 2017.
The union described the policy as unrealistic.
The National President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, in a letter addressed to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali (retd), described the policy as self-serving, to enrich some ''unscrupulous personnel''.
Mr. Wabba advised the NCS to find a coherent response that will deal with the myriads of challenges facing the service, including porous borders and extortion along highways.
The Senate had last week directed the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hammeed Ali (rtd.), to appear unfailingly in full uniform to explain the decision.
