Cristiano Ronaldo and his Real Madrid teammates suffered a shock defeat in the La Liga on Sunday.

The reigning La Liga Champions were beaten 2-1 by Girona who had Super Eagles star Kayode Olarenwaju in action for the last 10 minutes.

It was appalling as Zinedine Zidane’s side threw away their lead by conceding two goals in quick succession and falling eight points behind leaders Barcelona.

Kayode, who is keen for a recall to the Super Eagles, had a chance of his own when he came on in the 80th minute but his effort was blocked by the Real Madrid defenders.

At the end, it did not matter as Girona held on for the historic win over the reigning La Liga and European champions.

With Sunday's defeat inflicted by Kayode and his teammates, Real are now third in the standings on 20 points, four behind second-placed Valencia while unbeaten leaders Barca have 28.

Real now travel to London to take on Tottenham in the Champions League before hosting Las Palmas next weekend.
