When the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo rejected the appointment of Dare Amos Idowu as the new Osolo of Isolo community in Akure, Ondo State, little did he know he had courted the wrath of the people.

One week after his pronouncement, the people of the community have continued to vehemently frown at his audacity to challenge their collective choice.

According to Chief Iwaloye Makinsun, the Deji of Akure is treading on a dangerous path.

"From time immemorial, we have been having substantial kings popularly elected by the kingmakers.

"Before the choice is made, our traditions are strictly followed, and every cultural condition must be fulfilled.

"We don't just hand-pick like other communities. So how can Oba Aladetoyinbo just come now and change our tradition for us? It won't work."

Also speaking against the decision of the Deji was the daughter of the late former Osolo, Princess Kemi Oluwatuyi.

"I strongly believe that Oba Aladetoyinbo actually feels threatened by the pedigree and professional resume of Oba Idowu who is popularly chosen and accepted by our people.

"Our people have spoken and he has no choice than to listen to what they say."

Speaking on behalf of the kingmakers, High Chief Ibukun Adetoyinbo dispelled the rumour that the Oba-elect has gone into hiding after declaring himself the paramount ruler of Isolo land.

"Oba Idowu is currently undergoing the traditional processes that will finally usher him to the throne of his forebear.

"When completed, he will be officially installed at the appropriate time and nobody can stop it.

"The Deji of Akureland has no power to stop the installation of Idowu, the appointee of the Isolo kingmakers."

While contacted, the Chief Press secretary to the Deji of Akure, Michael Adeyeye said the Deji had spoken and any attempt to contravene his decision will be met with a dire consequence.

"As far as we are concerned here, the appointment of Dare Idowu as Osolo of Isolo is illegal and no Akure traditional institution is aware of it", he added.

Isolo is a community in Akure, Ondo State. Its stool became vacant following the demise of Oba Kayode Oluwatuyi few years ago.

Since then, the traditional affairs of the community has been presided over by the Lisa of Isolo until recently when the kingmakers and members of the community unanimously agreed on the choice of Amos Idowu to ascend the throne as Osolo of Isolo land.
